Isekai is a different sort of genre that everybody doesn’t love, but yes, there is a large fan base for it. In this, you find a person from Earth trapped, reborn, or transported to a parallel universe or sometimes fantasy worlds as well.
Such sorts of anime are very tough to predict. This is everything, let’s say romance, thrill, comedy, action, and whatnot. Even if you are a new anime watcher, you must already have an idea because I’m very sure you would have watched a few Hollywood movies falling into similar categories.
The creative buddies in Japan have truly done enough justice to this genre. Isekai in itself means transported to hell. Why am I not a part of this world? So, which are the most watched anime in this category?
I’ve watched more than 55 anime to date, I guess, and now I’m ready with a solid list of recommendations. Thanks for reading.
1. Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid
Hey, are you living an average life and feel bored in your office? Well, you’re not alone. This is not just a “human” problem. The same issue is highlighted in many anime as well, and Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid is a similar one.
She lives in a dull, small apartment all alone, and one day, she saves a female dragon’s life. This dragon named Tohru can magically transform into a very beautiful girl with a long tail and horns. Tohru is ready to do anything to bring betterment to Miss Kobayashi’s life as a gratitude.

She doesn’t bother whether Miss Kobayashi is ready to accept it or not. She just wants to do it. So, you can imagine how interesting life could be when you have an amorous dragon in your apartment as a roommate.
Life doesn’t stay normal from any angle, and things start happening. And the story has a very deep end. It really enticed me.
2. Re: ZERO -Starting Life in Another World
Here’s a thrilling anime series of 78 passionate episodes, out of which you will watch at least 10 of them twice. That’s my honest review about Re Zero starting life in another world. You can already figure out by its title that it falls in the Isekai genre.
It’s one of the greatest and most popular isekai anime in history. Subaru Natsuki, the protagonist, is a high school student who was transported to some weird planet, an extremely mysterious one. There, he meets Satella, and these guys are actually killed.

Subaru doesn’t reach his death; he finds himself restored to life. There, he finds out that he is actually stuck in a weird loop in this horrifying universe. The remaining story is all about how he manages to escape from that loop because he wants to get back to his normal life again at any cost.
This is a slightly mind-bending story, and you can resonate this one with a few Hollywood movies as well. Actually, I’d prefer a perfectly matching Hollywood movie to be made based on this anime. And I’m very sure that if 78 episodes can keep you glued badly to your screen, then there’s definitely something about this anime.
There’s no shortage of entertainment, and that’s the reason you’ll find Re: ZERO -Starting Life in Another World, a part of many lists recommending the best anime.
3. Sword Art Online
It won’t be too much to call sword art a pioneer in this genre, and it has a lot of things that will blow your mind off. A few episodes, I truly say, made me travel to some other world, and I was not able to hold myself back from watching them twice or sometimes even thrice.
Kiriti Christ, the main protagonist, is a reputable person and interesting in many ways. The fight scenes are slightly hyped. A few of you might not appreciate that, but yes, the lines are amazing.

If you love a slightly hyped sort of anime, then you’ll truly appreciate the animation, and it has thousands of spin-offs. That makes the story very unpredictable, and I personally feel that is the thing that adds spice to the story of sword art online.
Gun Gale Is truly a pleasure to watch, and I don’t know anything about your taste, but let me tell you that you’ll surely find something in this anime for which you’ll start loving sword art online.
4. Gate
Most of the time, when you watch Isekai anime, the story starts pretty slowly, and even a few times, you start feeling slightly bored waiting for the main happenings to hit. However, Gate doesn’t fall into that category because I found this one enticing right from the first episode that I watched.
There’s a portal that connects the Modern world to a weird but enticing fantasy world where all sorts of demons, dragons, ogres, etc, live.

Now, because of this connection, these creatures have started entering modern-day Japan. You can imagine what sort of chaos would have been created after that.
The situation is going to get apocalyptic in no time,e but let’s not forget that modern-day human is equipped with modern-day weapons. So, Gate is all about the clash of two sides.
Let me not give you the spoiler, but the war doesn’t reach any proper solution. This story is not as easy as it sounds. There are a lot of twists and turns, but yes, you cannot expect too much mystery from this anime.
5. My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!
If you have watched Jumanji movies, then it will be very easy for you to predict the story of “My Next Life as a Villainess.” The protagonist, Katarina, once finds herself stuck inside a video game that she plays pretty often.
She is born as a villainess, and her memory about her past life is regained in no time. In simple words, she knows very well she’s an evil person and will reach the doors of death when the campaign ends. So, while progressing through the story, she cannot afford to make mistakes, and she has a lot of pressure to tackle.
The concept itself is very good and can attract tens of thousands of anime lovers to watch it. The cast is full of interesting characters, and you are never left behind in terms of enjoyment. There’s a lot to enjoy, believe me.
6. No Game No Life
I’ve already mentioned sword art online anime on this list, and if you’ve already watched it, then you’ll be able to resonate with the fact that No Game No Life is pretty much inspired by that anime only.
Shiro and Sora, the siblings and protagonists of the story, defeat God in a chess game, and now they are banished to a kingdom where everything is determined by the victory and loss of the game. Hence, they are bound to perform their best.
They have the responsibility of defeating a young woman who wants to snatch her dad’s crown. Don’t get me wrong, she is actually a nice lady.
Early on, you feel like she is an evil one, but yes, she is a nice one. Her father is evil, though. So, these siblings actually support this young lady in her tough quest.
There are a few overpowered characters in this anime, but it’s still very interesting to watch.
The rivalry shown in games gives you a different level of thrill. It has a lot of things to grab the viewer’s attention throughout the runtime, and I personally appreciate the smartness of the characters in this anime. That’s something that kept me enticed throughout the watch time.
7. Hinamatsuri
Nitta Yoshifumi lives a very peaceful and luxurious life in Asahikawa. He has all his beloved people around him, and he thanks God for making his life so easy and pleasurable.
However, one day, a weird twist comes in when a girl named Hina arrives in a weird vehicle (or object, I don’t know what to call it) but uses certain powers to mentally force Nitta to let her live with him.
This entirely changes his lifestyle and fills it with trouble. Hina loses control of herself very easily. Still, Nitta proves to be a person who believes in caring for her. This arrangement is more strange than you can think of.
You can see how a nicely built guy outlaws a psychokinetic girl. N,o n,o n,o don’t consider it to be a proper love story, but ye, the chemistry is truly amazing.
8. The Eminence In Shadow
True Isekai anime lovers were truly waiting for the eminence in the shadows. It’s a highly hyped anime that does fulfill the expectations really well. Released back in 2022, the anime highlights the story of Sid Kageno, a very struggling person in modern-day Japan.
He gets reborn in a mysterious world and starts exploring the supremacy of darkness. He gets to understand his darker side as well. It won’t be wrong to say that The Eminence In Shadow” lived up to its expectations.
There are a lot of fun features, making it an entertaining watch. The comedy elements could have been slightly better. The plot deserves full marks because of many reasons. Our main character focuses on his goal throughout the anime, which keeps the watchers tightly gripped.
Yes, there’s a spice of fan service as well. So there’s a lot of potential in this anime, and if you like unexpected stories, then grab this one.
9. The Devil is a Part-Timer!
Do you really feel Demon King Satan may also face demise and hardships? Well, that’s true. In “The Devil Is A Part Timer,” the Demon King Satan actually flees to another world and helps him adjust to this new world as soon as possible.
However, as soon as they are transported into this new world, they find that all of their vital magical powers are lost, and they are nothing more than normal humans. They are living in a very populated place named Japan.
So, to survive, they needed money, and for money, they started doing a part-time job at a small, fast food corner. The hardships that they face to adapt to modern-day society are truly amazing to watch.
Starting from getting adjusted as normal Japanese citizens, they start dreaming about ruling the country. Will Japan get a new ruler? Or are these guys just dreaming wildly? It’s worth watching.
10. Log Horizon
Log Horizon is unique from the rest of the Isekai anime world. You won’t find any overpowered protagonist, and that is really an expected thing when we talk about the isekai genre anime. You can relate the story to the real world.
You can see a lot of fighting scenes, but nothing overpowered whatsoever. Just the power that you really enjoy. This show is very interesting and realistic. However, the story runs slightly slow. If you are a patient watcher, then Log Horizon is for you.
Don’t expect a lot of twists and turns, but if you are seeking a nice gripping story, a realistic one with limited fight scenes and more common sense, then yes, Log Horizon is for you.
11. In Another World With My Smartphone
Just by reading the title “In Another World with My Smartphone,” you can have a slight idea of the weirdness of the story. Yes, this one is a really twisted plot. A guy gets hit by lightning and dies before time.
However, God apologizes for the same and asks him if he can do anything for him. He puts him into some fantasy world with some tremendous power, which the guy can use to get anything he wishes for. The main character asks whether he can take his smartphone along with him.
The protagonist is not one of the smartest people out there, but yes, he still uses this power wisely. I really appreciate this show for one thing – this anime feels pretty much like a parody of Isekai shows, and it also gives wings to our imagination.
Telling about myself when I watched it, I was always wondering about what I could have asked at this place if I was at his place..
12. The Rising Of The Shield Hero
This is a guy. Again, this is a name mostly for gamers. It’s all about a game that teleports the user, the player, to a magical kingdom. Our MC faces the same. He is one of the four heroes who are divinely selected to save our planet Earth from mass destruction.
This action-packed adventure is about a guy who is actually the dream of many animal -lovers. The Rising of the Shield Hero cannot be called a perfect story because you can already predict almost 70 -80% of it. Some of you might feel bored in the middle part because of the same reason.
The story could have been more chilled; I myself figured out 10 plus faults in this anime. However, if you have already watched the famous Isekai anime, then I’m really looking to watch something in this genre only then. Yes, the Rising of the Shield Hero is worth trying.
13. Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation
Mushoku Tensei was released in 21, a year when no other isekai anime series was launched, so there was no competition. It meant all Ikai anime fans getting here; you get to know about a guy who tries to save someone and loses his life.
He gets re-elected in a whole new fantasy world as ‘Rudeus Greyrat.’ The main character is pretty unhappy with certain decisions he made in his previous life and wants to ensure he repeats none of them in this new life. He wants to bring some meaningfulness to his character.
Season 2 is also soon going to arrive, and there are great chances of success because, with this first season, a huge fan base has already been attached. For anybody who loves comedy characters and magical stories, Mushoku Tensei is 100% “YES.”
It’s worth watching how protagonist Rudeus uses his magical abilities and shows craziness throughout the anime. The comedy section is truly hilarious.
